Your Guide to Publishing Content #LikeABoss - Meet the Boss

Have we met? In case you missed it, here’s my story.

Hey, I’m Jasmine, but you can call me Jae.

I had early dreams of becoming a writer because I loved how the stories in books took me to places outside of myself. As an awkward, big-toothed skinny kid, I didn’t fit in, but books made me feel welcome and accepted.

Can you believe my Dad had to bribe me to play outside because I only wanted to stay inside reading? Yeah, my introversion started early.

My love of writing and storytelling grew, and I wrote my first (unpublished) novel at 12. Of course, I couldn’t tell you the story now, but I remember feeling proud and accomplished, leaping from writing in my diary to penning a full-fledged manuscript!

In college, I earned some editing experience as a proofreader for my African American Studies professor and helped fellow students as an English grammar tutor. I’m a proud word nerd. Also, as an OCD INFJ, my brain is hardwired to spot typos and inconsistencies.

Believe it or not, I didn’t pursue writing or journalism in college! Instead, I earned a Law & Justice/Psychology Bachelor of Science degree. After graduating, I served in the U.S. Army as an MP, hoping to join the FBI.

Disgruntled with criminal justice after giving up my dream of becoming “Clarice” from Silence of the Lambs, I fell into entrepreneurial life as an international jewelry designer.

Fast forward to 2007. After researching how destructive gem and mineral mining is to the environment, I created a blog to share my newfound “eco” journey. My blog morphed into the international digital resource Modern Hippie Mag

I’m still incredibly proud of my work with my five editors and our global team of content creators and freelance writers sharing environmental sustainability resources, personal essays, and eco-friendly product reviews.

The mag ceased operations in 2012 after several years of producing daily content.

After serving as the mag’s editor-in-chief, I wrote articles and essays for the Sarasota Orchestra, MySuncoast.com (ABC7 WWSB-TV), SCENE Magazine, Thrive Global, various blogs, and several Medium.com publications.

My love of storytelling led me to host a podcast, talk show, and performance art for theatre and TV.

At the same time, I established a media production company developing marketing content for nonprofit organizations, entertainers, and small business owners because I developed a knack for strategic storytelling.

Fun Facts: I was born in Washington, D.C., but grew up in New Jersey. I am a Breast Implant Illness survivor. I volunteer as the Like-Minded Collective Woman Over 40 Community Manager. I host Boss Squad Brainstorm Weekly workshops and networking events. I share sassy midlife commentary at #RealTalk Central. I’m addicted to playing Scrabble™ (go figure!), watching sci-fi action movies, and Pickleball, and I love the color yellow.

Why Copy Editing?

Because storytelling was the foundation of my career pursuits, choosing a path that combines my love for writing, storytelling, and marketing is the best fit for me. And I love helping folks write and publish (grammar-friendly and error-free) stories because shared stories can change lives.

I’m forever grateful for the editorial work I’ve done with some fantastic clients, like the Ford Foundation, PBS and PBS Kids, B is for Black Brilliance, Sarasota Rising, and more.

Of course, I love partnering with ambitious female founders, purpose-driven entrepreneurs, creative professionals, and marketing experts like you to craft compelling, grammar-friendly marketing content.

But, I am equally passionate about working with mission-minded organizations that improve the planet.

Whether it’s web content, blog posts, or marketing campaigns, I can help you save time and sharpen your message by providing the professional-level editing expertise your project needs, from in-depth line editing to the final polish before publication.

Working with me, I’ll help you share stories and promotional messages that keep your audience’s attention, leave a lasting impression, and convert passive readers into loyal fans & customers.

Why the “Boss” brand?

Boss Copy Editing: Content Strategist, Copy Editor, and Blogging Coach Jasmine Jae Hermann

Initially, I launched my business as Jae Hermann + Co., but at the start of 2023 decided to move away from using my ex-hub’s name. I agonized over my rebrand for months. Finally, I came up with Brown Boss Media to, in part, honor my heritage as a mixed-race woman and project a bold persona.

I created Boss Copy Editing as a subsidiary editorial services company where, ultimately, you are the boss!

Copy editing doesn’t change your voice. Instead, I help you publish your words your way but ensure your written content is error-free and grammar-friendly.
